1) If you are looking for an ELECTRICIAN IN CULCHETH then we can help you.

We are in Lowton and we cover all local areas from Leigh to Liverpool. We mostly carry out those small electrical jobs that need to be done that you may struggle to get someone out for, let alone a quote.

The photograph shows a job we attended in Warrington where there was an issue with the sockets. We found the issue with the sockets quickly and managed to get things back up and running for the customer within the hour. There had been a number of loose connections combined with a high demand for power that had caused a switch to burn out and damage some cabling behind. This was found promptly and immediately repaired and the switch replaced with a new one.

2) What causes a switch to burn out?

Lots of things can cause a switch to burn out:

  • An under rated switch. If a switch rated at 10 amps is used to control or switch a load higher than 10 amps then the switch will burn out.
  • Excessive operation can cause a switch to fail. This is like excessive wear and tear that causes contact on the switch mechanism to become worn causing a high resistance electric-mechanical joint which prevents electrical current flowing easily. The components can completely fail internally and the insides of the switch essentially fall apart.
  • Loose connections are another reason why a switch would fail. Loose wiring is a common problem that causes melting, burning and general havoc.
  • Incorrectly terminated cable is another regular problem that we come across. Finely stranded flexible cable should be correctly terminated into switches and other electrical accessories using the correct solid connection to ensure that the fine stranded cables are not chewed up in the screw terminals at the back of the electrical accessory.

5) Can you install a new consumer unit?

Yes, we regularly install replacement or new consumer units for customers. There may be occasions that we recommend an electrical inspection is carried out BEFORE installing a new consumer unit as there may be pre-existing faults that older consumer units would not pick up. We are happy to discuss your situation with you before carrying out any work. You can read more about consumer unit swaps on our website on the link below.

You can also call us on 0151 351 4011 or 01925 595 980 if you want to discuss over the phone.

6) Can you do a safety electrical check for me?

These checks are vital if you are buying a second-hand home. The electrical installations in brand new homes will typically be fine if they are left alone and should not need an electrical safety check for the first ten years at least. When buying a slightly older property it is sensible to have a check done on the electrical installation separate to the survey as your electrician will be able to highlight any potentially dangerous issues that you need to be aware of before you buy the house.

7) Do I need a metal consumer unit?

NO, you absolutely do not need a metal consumer unit simply because yours may be plastic. If you have been told that you need to swap your plastic consumer unit for a metal one just because it is plastic then this is not correct. There needs to be other reasons for this. For example, if the consumer unit is showing signs of thermal damage, if the cover is broken or the device inside need upgrading then it may need swapping to a new metal one.
If you need an ELECTRICIAN IN CULCHETH to advise you on your consumer unit then you have reached the right place.

There is a wealth of information on consumer unit problems and solutions on the website right here. https://www.electricalfaultsfixed.co.uk/knowledge-centre

8) Can you fix a broken socket for me?

We can replace broken sockets for you, broken switches, light fittings and other electrical accessories too. We are always happy to carry out the smaller jobs when needed. Broken plug socket can be dangerous if left and should be replaced as soon as possible. Once a socket is cracked it can take a small knock for it to completely break and expose live parts, this is a dangerous situation.
