Before any consumer unit upgrade we strongly recommend that we carry out an Electrical Inspection. This will produce an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report), more information on this can be found here: https://www.electricalfaultsfixed.co.uk/helpsheet/eicr-what-expect

This is recommended so that potential safety issues and faults that may exist in your homes wiring system are highlighted and can be addressed before the installation of the new consumer unit / fuse board.

Modern consumer units can detect problems that older technology cannot and will refuse to turn on if there are issues. It is best to know this BEFORE we install a new consumer unit as the affected circuits would have to be left disconnected until the issues were found and fixed.

The current wiring regulations in force at the time of writing are BS7671 18th Edition Amendment 2. We install and carry out all work to the latest edition of the wiring regulations and that means the absolute cutting edge of safety and technology is installed in your home for you.

We only use consumer units that contain RCBO devices rather than inferior dual RCD devices. This means that if there are any faults in the future you will know which circuit the issue is on and be minimally inconvenienced. If there is a fault on the cooker circuit for instance then only the cooker circuit will be affected. Dual RCD boards are cheaper and in the event of a fault half of your home could be affected at once!!!

We also fit Surge Protection as standard to ensure that the wiring and appliances in your home are protected against over voltages and surges in the electrical supply.

That’s enough technical talk for now! Keep reading for more information and FAQ’s.
