How much is a new consumer unit / fuse board going to cost?

One of the most important decision making factors when considering a fuse board / consumer unit replacement will be the cost. The cost will depend on a number of variables.

Before any consumer unit is changed we strongly recommend that we carry out a full electrical inspection. We will produce an Electrical Installation Condition Report from this which will highlight any safety issues with the installation PRIOR to installing the new consumer unit. This gives YOU the client the chance to have these issues rectified before we go ahead and install the new consumer unit.

Modern consumer units offer a much increased level of safety, protection and can detect electrical faults that older technology cannot.  A modern consumer unit will trip if there are problems. Testing can also pick up on further safety issues that were previously undetected.

It is far better to be forewarned about any problems that may affect the ability to get the power back on rather than screwing a new unit to the wall and leaving you for the weekend with no sockets!

Our charges for an EICR start from £200 for smaller properties.

Our charges for an 18th edition 2nd amendment compliant consumer unit with RCBO protection start from £550.

These prices do not include rectifying any issues highlighted on an EICR or any fault finding works.

If we look at a case of a small property with few circuits not requiring remedial works following inspection the costs would be £200 + £550 = £750
