6) Buzzing Noises👂

Electrical buzzing noises can indicate that there are problems looming. Some electrical buzzing noises can be normal. The most common electrical buzzing noise in the home is the doorbell transformer, even around today and required for hardwired modern doorbells. The doorbell transformer can make quite a racket especially if it is old.

If there is a buzzing noise that you are sure IS NOT your doorbell transformer then there may be some electrical problems that require investigation. Buzzing can indicate high resistances causing electricity to jump a gap causing arcing, sparking and potential fire.

7) Tripping Switches⚠️

Whilst these can be an annoyance, the switch that trips continually can indicate that there is an electrical fault in the installation and it should not be ignored. The reasons for a trip switch tripping are many and in fact, there are many other blogs we have written about this.

These switches are designed to protect from electric shock, fire, cable damage and serious electrical problems getting out of control. Constantly resetting these devices INSTEAD of calling an electrician is asking for trouble as they can and will eventually break.

Trip switch issues should be investigated promptly. The occasional trip is not a problem as this can be normal, if in doubt please do get in touch and ask for advice. Advice is always free.

8) Sockets Not Working🤷‍♀️

When sockets fail it can be worrying. One socket failing can be caused by faulty wiring, faulty sockets or perhaps a tripped switch in the consumer unit. When multiple or all sockets have failed then there could be a number of causes. If the switch does not reset in the consumer unit, then try unplugging everything and resetting the switch again. If the switch still does not reset then it is likely that there are issues that require the expertise of your local electrical fault-finding specialist. Use our contact form or give us a call for a price.

9) Cracked or Damaged Switches or Electrical Points❓

When there is this kind of damage to electrical points in the home then there is a risk of electric shock or injury. Electrical accessories tend to be brittle and once cracked, a small knock could then expose live parts creating a real risk of electric shock or electrocution.

Replacing damaged or cracked switches can be more difficult than you realise and should be undertaken by a professional electrician. Check your electrician out by looking at their Google Reviews to see what other customers have had to say.

10) Fuse Box Cover Missing🔎

If you find that your fuse box cover is missing this is an electrical emergency. Inside the fuse box (consumer unit) there are many electrical parts that are live to touch. The insides of this box should be avoided at all costs and only worked on by a competent and qualified electrician. If the fuse box cover is missing then there is a SERIOUS risk of electric shock and injury.
