1) As emergency electricians in Liverpool we often get asked 'My fuse box is really old, is it safe?'
Well, if it is in poor condition like the picture here then no its not safe, no its not good and yes it needs changing. 😊 We carry many old spares for fuse boxes and consumer units in stock and on the van HOWEVER these things cannot always be repaired and as such an attempted repair will be unsafe. Fortunately, we offer a “24 HOUR ELECTRICAL” service for emergencies so if you have a problem with an old fuse box, a dangerous socket or light then we are able to attend when you need us to.
A visual inspection is sometimes a good idea. A visual inspection will take approximately an hour and will look at your electrical installation including sockets, switches, light fittings, cables on display, fuse box and anything else that can be seen. A short report will be produced detailing any visual issues that are apparent and should be rectified.
A visual inspection is not always suitable as a means of ascertaining the safety of an electrical installation. In cases where the electrical installation is VERY OLD a visual inspection is often sufficient to establish that a rewire or new consumer unit / fuse box is needed. In many other installations it is often best to have a thorough and complete electrical inspection carried out.
Back to top2) What is an electrical inspection?
An electrical inspection is intended to dig deep into the electrical installation to find any problems or hidden dangers that may be lurking. There are several electrical faults and situations that will not be detected by the untrained eye, a fuse box, or a consumer unit and these can lie in wait until there is a fault creating a dangerous situation.
Back to top3) How long does an electrical inspection take?
Well, that depends entirely on the person undertaking the inspection. We are proud to always take out time and investigate as thoroughly as possible and therefore our electrical inspections can take a little longer than some other electricians. It is important to us that our customers get value for money and peace of mind with a thorough safety inspection. A typical three bed semi detached home will take around 3-4 hours to test and inspect.
Back to top4) Do you take every socket off the wall?
No. We inspect a sample of the accessories. We visually inspect everything practically possible and then remove a certain number of accessories depending upon the size of the circuits / property. We test every circuit as fully as possible at each point and at the consumer unit. We inspect the earthing, the quality of the insulation on the cabling, the electric shock protection and more.
Back to top5) Do you do inspections 24 hours a day?
We can arrange an electrical inspection at almost any time of day, weekday, or weekend but generally night times are reserved for emergencies as most tend to happen then. If, however you need us to carry out an electrical inspection at night, for instance when a shop is closed, then just talk to us and we will try and accommodate.
Back to top6) I need an electrician now can you help?
We offer a 24 HOUR ELECTRICAL service for emergencies. If you need us to attend urgently then call and we will book you in for ASAP attendance. If you need a quote or a non-urgent service then please call 9-5 Mon-Fri. 😊
Back to top7) Can you fix my problem same day / night?
We have a better chance than most. The main issue that most electricians have with out of hours repairs is sourcing components and spare parts for your electrical installation. No one can possibly store every single part necessary to complete every repair every time but that DOES NOT STOP US FROM TRYING!
We carry a vast range of stock in our store and on the van. If we do not have the part on the vehicle then we may well have the part in stock 24/7. When a situation arises that involves ordering parts, we will attempt to carry out a temporary repair BUT it HAS TO BE SAFE to do so.
As we specialise in emergency repairs and fault finding we try to cover every eventuality. Spare switch from a fuse box built 40 years ago and manufacturer no longer in business…. YES. Spare sockets, switches and light fittings….,YES.
Back to top8) What if you cannot fix the problem straight away?
Do not get me wrong, we always like to get you back up and running immediately but if it is not possible then our immediate priority is your safety and that of those in your home. We will leave your electrics safe and provide you with a written quote for repairs ASAP. Once you accept our quote for repairs you are then a PRIORITY in getting your home back up and running. We will keep you updated on parts delivery and timescales and will not leave you in the dark (unless we had to turn your lights off of course 😊)
