Back to topThere are many electrical situations that could be deemed an emergency. Some are absolutely undoubtedly an emergency regardless of your needs or your home electrical setup, and others are potentially an emergency for one client but not so much for another.
We go through the possible emergency situations that you might need help with, the causes and solutions to these.
When electrical equipment is sparking, this is a genuine emergency. Regardless of how urgent you think this is, let me tell you, its VERY URGENT. If you have electrical sparking then call us right away and we will tell you what to do, whether its necessary for us to attend or if there is another company that should be coming to look at equipment, we will let you know what’s needed.
Faulty electrics could be things like an intermittently functioning socket, lights that occasionally don’t work or strange noises from sockets or switches. These three things are very likely to be absolutely urgent regardless of how little inconvenience they are causing you. Electrical equipment that works occasionally is one of the signs of serious electrical problems that could result in fires or electrical system damage. It is imperative that you contact us immediately if you are experiencing these problems.
If anyone is experiencing electric shocks then CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY. If it is safe to do so, TURN OFF THE MAINS supply at the fuse box and call us up.
Electric shocks are potentially deadly and this kind of situation can indicate that there is a serious problem with your electrical supply, your electrical system, and the earthing in the property. If someone has experienced an electric shock in your property then you should consider consulting a doctor or other medical professional for advice.
Most importantly do not go near the area or equipment where you received the shock from. This is very important. Call us out immediately to help, we are experts at finding issues such as this and are confident that we can help you with your emergency.
An RCD or RCCB trips for a variety of reasons. These devices are predominantly installed to protect against electric shock so they should not be continually reset as this risks the device failing and electric shock risk then being present. If one of these devices are tripping then you absolutely need to call us to come and investigate the problem for you. Our article on this may offer some more insight for you.
If you have an old Fusebox that is damaged, it may or may not be an emergency depending upon the type of damage that has occurred. If the fuse box is overheating or hot, has melted, or smells of burning then this is most definitely an emergency. If the cover is loose but otherwise secure and perhaps just missing a screw then this can often wait until the next day.
If there are holes in your Fusebox then these can be absolutely deadly and should be covered up until an electrician can get there to correctly fix them. The Fusebox or consumer unit contains live parts and often no form of electric shock protection. It is quite possible to receive a deadly shock by inserting a finger into a Fusebox and as such, any holes in this equipment need to be correctly sealed by an electrician.
If you are in doubt then please contact us, we have WhatsApp on the website so you can send photographs. We offer this as a FREE SERVICE which we think is VITAL to ensuring and improving electrical safety, if attendance is needed to make safe there will be a charge.
If you are experiencing noises from your Fusebox such as popping or banging noises then these are very serious and should be checked by an electrician immediately. Call us for immediate advice and we may be able to advise by video call what is best to do.
We will need to attend to check these kinds of issues out for you but we aim to try and make things safer for you before we get there.
Flickering lights are often nothing to worry about but it does depend on HOW they are flickering and WHEN they are flickering. There is more information in the link above regarding this.
Dimmer switches, failing transformers, loose connections, lamp or bulb incompatibility and electrical supply problems are common reasons for lights beginning to flicker. If you are at all concerned, we are a 24 HOUR emergency electrician, call out service and we will attend your home in the north west if you need us.
When experiencing a power cut, this can be down to a variety of causes. Certain electrical systems have an upfront electric shock prevention device that cuts power to the electrical systems when there is a single fault. There could be faulty sockets in the property which may not cause a circuit breaker to trip but can cause the whole system to go down!
That’s right, even some faulty wiring on the lights for example, could cause the whole home to lose power until an electrical repair is carried out on a light fixture, light switch, or lighting cable.
Power outages in electrical installations can also be caused by a short circuit out in the street or elsewhere before the electricity supply gets to your home. You should check to see if there are power supply problems to your home and the surrounding areas by calling 105 to speak to your local electricity network operator.
If there are no known problems then it is likely that you will need a 24 HOUR emergency electrician service to check your electrical system for faults.
From aging electrical appliances to a blow light bulb, there are many issues that can cause a blown fuse or blown circuit breaker to occur. Regardless of the time of day, we are here to offer emergency electrician services to our customers, providing peace of mind, years of experience and a high standard of work at the most inconvenient times!
Blown fuses can cause serious concern for our customers but the good news is that many electrical issues that cause a blown fuse can be solved easily.
Back to topA callout charge is generally understood to mean that a charge will be made simply for attending a customer’s homes then any work or parts required are at an extra cost.
We charge a fee that includes our travel to and from your home, the attendance and first hour’s labour but excluding any parts or labour beyond the first hour.
The cost of that first hour depends upon when we are asked to attend your home. Out of hours, bank holidays and festive periods will attract a higher cost than attendance during normal working hours.
Back to topThe prices for emergency attendance can be seen by visiting our emergency service page here.
The charges are laid out clearly along with what is included and excluded. Any further clarification can be given on the telephone at the time of booking and will be included in our terms and conditions for you to agree to before booking the service with us.
Back to topCosts for electrical repairs can vary. Once the electrical fault has been highlighted, there are often no further costs to pay.
Scenario 1
Let’s say that the electrical problem is a faulty socket that is causing a trip switch to appear broken for instance.
Fault finding and investigation is carried out and finds that there is a faulty socket causing the trip switch problem. The repair involves replacing the socket and all this manages to happen within the first hour of attendance on this occasion.
The only additional charges to pay under these circumstances would be the cost of the socket which would be agreed with you prior to replacement.
Scenario 2
There is a power failure but nothing has tripped.
After some investigation, we find that there are issues inside the consumer unit or Fusebox meaning that a consumer unit replacement is necessary. The parts are not available immediately but can be obtained the same evening/day.
There WILL be additional costs in order to affect the repair. The initial fault investigations have been carried out but have uncovered some serious defects that require further works at additional cost. You are under no obligation to use our services beyond that point but a quote will be provided for you. 😊
