Emergency Electrician in Liverpool: Typical Issues We See - Electrical Faults Fixed

As an Emergency Electrician in Liverpool, we attend many electrical emergency callouts and during our working week we come across a variety of common electrical problems that appear with electrical systems. During this article we will discuss the most common issues that can occur with a typical domestic electrical system and why they occur in the first place.

1) Tripping Switch

One of the most common phone calls we receive is from new customers that are having problems with a switch tripping in their Fusebox or consumer unit. The assumption is that the switch must be faulty but in reality, there is often nothing wrong with the switch at all. In fact, it is far more likely that there is an electrical fault on one of the many electrical circuits that are present in your home.

Typically, a tripping circuit breaker switch is caused by a faulty appliance. This is the case in around 80% of our emergency calls. For this reason, we always recommend unplugging your electrical equipment from all of your socket outlets before giving us a call. It is likely that you may be able to safely reset your trip switches once your appliances are unplugged.

2) Sockets not working

Many people will call us if they have electrical sockets that have stopped working. It is one of the most common calls we get. The first step to solving this is to check if anything has occurred at the consumer unit, if there is a switch in the down position then see if it will flip back up.

Sockets stop working for several reasons:

Whatever the cause of your socket problems in Liverpool, we can definitely help you. As a fully qualified Gold Card Electrician with years of experience in the industry and as an Electrical Lecturer, I am well placed to assist you with your electrical issues

3) No power but lights are on?

This is a common situation that occurs in electrical systems in the UK. This is often as a result of how the consumer unit is constructed and installed where an electrical fault on one circuit will cause the loss of power to everything but the lights.

The home remedy type fix that you can try is to check for a tripped circuit breaker or RCD device in the consumer unit. If you cannot turn the affected circuit breaker back on then you need to unplug all your electrical plugs from the wall sockets and try again.

Should you be unable to reset the switch then definitely call us. I will take your call and get out to you as quickly as possible.

4) How quickly do emergency electricians come out?

My all- time record for attending an electrical emergency callout is 8 minutes from the customers phone call. Typically, however, I can attend to your electrical problems within 2 hours during the evening or weekends and same day on weekdays.

5) What is the cost?

Our costs for emergencies can be found by clicking here which takes you to our costs page for our services.

As electrical emergencies can occur for many different reasons, we have to attend to carry out investigations before repairs can take place. In many cases, repairs take place at the same time as the call out and often incur no further costs.

In some instances, where specialist parts may be required, we will order the parts and return as soon as possible to complete the repair. Don’t worry though, we will always leave your electrical system safe whilst parts arrive.
