An Emergency Electrician in Liverpool is an electrician that specialises in quick attendance, electrical testing and fault finding. As such, there are few that will carry out all of these at the same time. Not every electrician will specialise in fault finding as there are some many areas of electrical work that are available to electricians.
An Electrical Emergency is a situation that presents serious danger, inconvenience or gives cause for safety concerns. You would need an Emergency Electrician if you had any of the following situations for example:
- Tripping Switches
- Blown Fuses
- Burning Smell
- Flickering Lights
- Crackling Plug Sockets
- Burnt Plug Sockets
- Loose Light Switches or Sockets
- Buzzing Fusebox
- Loose lid on the Fusebox
- Damaged or Faulty Wiring
As your local Emergency Electrician in Liverpool, I specialise in attending electrical problems quickly and resolve most issues within the first hour. Where further diagnosis, parts or labour are required, I will always have an honest and open discussion with you regarding what is needed. A free, no-obligation quote will be provided if further works are required.
Back to top1) Why You Need a 24-Hour Electrician
You cannot ring just anyone in the middle of the night. Many electricians will work on building sites, social housing works, rewiring homes or businesses and carrying out other electrical works during the day and will not want to be disturbed during the evening after 5pm. A 24-Hour Electrician is able to take emergency calls through the evening and early hours if you need someone to attend to your electrical emergency.
A 24-Hour Electrician will often have access to electrical components and parts in their ‘stock’ that other electricians may not carry. They are able to repair many issues on site first time and can often obtain parts from their lock-up or storage to repair your electrical issues quickly and efficiently.
As your local 24-Hour Electrician in Liverpool I am able to take your emergency call and attend to most electrical issues very quickly out of hours. It's important to phone as soon as you have your electrical problem so I can book you into my work schedule as this does fill up very quickly with limited slots available during out of hours.
I carry a wide range of electrical components in stock that allow me to repair most electrical issues first time and with minimal fuss.

Back to top4) Common Electrical Emergencies in Liverpool
There are a number of electrical emergencies that are very common and Liverpool homes in certain areas seem to suffer with various issues. Some of the most common electrical issues are caused by other building related problems and in some cases, other works by different tradespeople may be required in order to permanently fix a problem.
Typical electrical emergencies include situations like:
- Rodent Damage to cables
- Water ingress into electrical wiring or accessories
- Tripping Switches
- Flickering Lights
- Accidental damage to cables from nails or screws
- Failing switches in the consumer unit
- Blown Fuses
These emergencies can cause a variety of problems. For instance, one faulty section of wire in your home can cause the complete failure of all lights, sockets, cooker, electric shower, boiler and so on. When one faulty piece of wire causes this much mayhem, its time to upgrade your consumer unit or fuse box to a more modern one.
4.1) Rodent Damage to cables
In some areas of Liverpool rodents are more prevalent than others. Where these little creatures are able to get underneath the floorboards or into the loft, they can wreak havoc with electrical wiring. Rodents absolutely love chewing electrical cables which can cause an absolute nightmare when it comes to rectifying the damage. Occasionally a full rewire is recommended rather than repairing dozens of cables.

4.2) Water Ingress into electrical wiring
We have a lot of rain in the UK and as your local Emergency Electrician in Liverpool I can tell you that we suffer greatly with our electrical systems as a result. Common issues include roofs that allow water in which then penetrates light fittings, failed plumbing that allows escape of water into fuse boxes, plug sockets, switches.
4.3) Tripping Switches
Switches can trip in a fuse box or consumer unit for a variety of reasons. Many electrical systems in Liverpool homes are not brand new. The older electrical wiring gets the more likely it is to develop problems as wiring insulation begins to breakdown causing issues like earth leakage and short circuits.

4.4) Flickering Lights
Flickering lights can cause much concern for homeowners and Liverpool businesses. There are many reasons why lights may begin to flicker. For instance, if lights flicker where a dimmer switch is involved then it could be as a result of incompatibility between components that causes the flickering.
Another more concerning reason that lights may flicker could be that of loose connections. Where connections become loose, heat can build up as resistance to electrical current flow increases. This can cause a situation that ends up in electrical arcing and possible fire risk under some circumstances.
Flickering lights can also occur as a result of failing components within LED fittings. For more information on flickering lights, you can check out our article.
4.5) Accidental damage to cables from nails and screws
One of the most common calls I receive as an Emergency Electrician in Liverpool is the weekend DIY disaster call. Don’t worry, it happens to lots of people. You finally decide to put that set of shelves up and as you drill into the wall, the electrics go off.
(Photo: Nails through Cables in the Floor Boards)
Cable damage from DIY or other activities is very common and you should not feel embarrassed to call. I am able to repair most DIY disaster situations quickly and efficiently and can get your electrical supply back up and running quickly.
If you have damaged a cable, it is important to leave the circuit switch turned off if it has tripped. Constantly resetting a tripped circuit breaker is likely to lead to further damage to the wiring, circuit breaker failure and possible fire risk.
4.6) Failing switches in the consumer unit
Many electrical systems are installed and then forgotten about. Never to be touched or maintained again until something goes wrong. This is a mistake and can lead to unexpected damage, failure, and emergency situations.
Consumer unit and fuse box switches have a lifespan which can vary with the use of the system. When switches begin to fail, they may trip intermittently, cause overheating, buzzing or other issues. If your fuse box is over 10 years old, it is a good idea to have an electrical inspection carried out by an electrician to check that everything is ok.
Electrical switches are there to prevent electrical shock, burns and fires. It's important that they operate when they are supposed to and replacing them every couple of decades is a wise idea.
4.7) Blown Fuses
If you still have an old-fashioned style fuse box then it is strongly recommended that this is replaced for a modern consumer unit. As your local Emergency Electrician in Liverpool, I have come across many of these old units that have suffered complete failure. Many times, this is as a result of loose connections, incorrectly wired fuses, wrong sized fuse wire or overcrowding inside the unit. Many of these fuse boxes are constructed of wood which can provide a lovely source of fuel for the resultant fire that occurs!
(Photo: Old Fuse Box that can Blow Fuses)
Check if your fuse box has a “date of last inspection” sticker, if not, then it is wise to have an electrician check out your fuse box for you. If you are unsure of the age of your fuse box, condition or if you require a replacement then get in touch with me and we can arrange to check this for you.

Back to top5) How to identify a Qualified Emergency Electrician in Liverpool
There are no specialised qualifications for fault finding believe it or not! There is the additional electrical qualification that many electricians choose to take which covers Inspection and Testing of electrical installations, but no specific qualification in finding faults within electrical systems.
Most of the knowledge acquired for accurate fault diagnosis and tracing electrical issues is done through years of testing, fault finding and investigation works. Most emergency electricians should be proficient in fault finding and fault repair.
One of the best ways to check if the company you are thinking of using is qualified to diagnose electrical issues is to check their Google reviews, their website articles and have a chat to them on the phone. You will see from my Google reviews that we are able to diagnose and repair issues quickly and with minimal fuss. Mis-diagnosing an electrical fault can result in expensive or unnecessary repairs.
Rest Assured that at Electrical Faults Fixed you are in good hands. I personally have many years of experience in electrical fault finding. I also teach the wiring regulations, inspection, testing and other electrical courses to both electricians and newcomers to the industry. You could not find a better Emergency Electrician in Liverpool to attend your electrical problem.

Back to top6) How to Prevent Electrical Emergencies in Liverpool
There are a number of steps that you can take to limit the prevalence of electrical faults in your home or business.
Step 1
Have regular electrical inspections carried out by a professional. A professional electrical inspection will take a few hours in a standard sized family home and will identify any dangerous issues that need rectifying.
Step 2
Test your RCD using the test button once every 6 months. If the device does not trip off then call an electrician immediately. This device protects you from electrical shock and if it is failing to operate, you are at risk!
Step 3
Have any obvious damages to the electrical sockets, switches or wiring repaired without delay. Delaying repairs can mean that further damage occurs or unexpected power trips occur.
Step 4
Don’t overload (INSERT HYPERLINK PLEASE)( ) your electrical circuits. Using too many appliances at once can overload some cables and result in premature failure of wiring and fuse box components.
Back to top7) Fast Response Emergency Electricians in Liverpool
There are few specialists that are able to attend 24 hours a day to your electrical emergency and less that can do so within a short space of time. I prioritise emergency calls as I know that my customers will need me to help as soon as possible.
Our response times are best after 5pm and before 8am during the weekdays and throughout the entire weekend. Emergency response times during weekday working hours are likely to be slightly longer due to pre-booked works. Rest assured though; we will always issue you with an ETA before you book with us to allow you to make an informed decision about using our services.
Not only can we attend quickly but due to our extensive fault-finding experience, we are likely to find the electrical faults quickly.
Back to top8) What should I do before the Emergency Electrician Arrives?
During our pre-booking call we will advise you of any steps that you need to take before our arrival. I will speak to you personally when you call and we will attempt to offer a phone-fix if possible. If that is not possible then the following steps are often necessary in order to facilitate as quick a repair as possible.
8.1) Clear the fuse box area
Most electrical investigations begin at the consumer unit or fuse box. As your local Emergency Electrician in Liverpool, I can tell you that fuse boxes in the older terraced properties are either by the front door covered with shoes and coats or behind the massive L-Shaped couch in the living room. This can hinder access and involve time in order to remove the furniture and belongings out of the way.
(Photo: A fuse box / Consumer Unit)
Please move your furniture and belongings if you are able to before I or my partner arrive. This will mean that we have more time to carry out fault finding and investigations and less time will be spent on heaving stuff around. 😊
8.2) Clear the plug sockets if they have tripped
If the plug sockets appear to be the problem with your electrics, then our investigations will usually involve removing these from the wall. Each plug socket will be checked and the wiring behind inspected closely. Using our specialist test equipment, the wiring will be tested to find where the bad section is located.
In order to properly inspect and test plug sockets, we need bodily access to work at each socket which may involve you having to remove appliances, furniture, and other obstacles from our way. Don’t worry too much if you need help, we will assist where we can.
When clearing the area around your plug sockets, check for any visible signs of damage like the photograph. A Burnt plug socket is a dangerous but all too common occurrence.

8.3) Make access to switches and lights simple
When lights go out, there may be a fault on the lights circuit. In order to find the location of this, we normally check each light switch, each light fitting and trace the wiring in between each room to see where the fault lies. This can take some time and where furniture or obstacles are in the way, this process can be elongated. Where possible, make room for us so we can carry out our work quickly thus reducing costs for you.
