Broken heater

1) We visited a property to make safe a heater that had gone faulty and fallen off the wall. This was disconnected and fully removed from the wall.

May of us will have an electric heater in the bathroom to ensure its warm enough we we get out of the bath or the shower. These can be very useful for short term additional heating in this area and can save putting the heating on for the whole house when it is perhaps only required in one room for a short period.

When there is a broken heater a variety of things can have happened with them. The heating elements can fail causing the heater to produce not heat or perhaps even trip the electrical supply to the house causing chaos and a possible fault finding visit from an electrician. The fans can fail and not blow out the heat. The elements can cause problems with the electrical supply as they heat up and leak current down the earth which will make things trip at the consumer unit.

In the case of the heater in the photograph, we can see that the heater was hanging off the wall meaning its fixings were not strong enough to keep it secured on the wall safely. We can also see that the cord at the rear of the heater is showing single insulation i.e coloured insulation. This should not be on show outside of an appliance, a plug top, or general electrical enclosure. This is a danger and should be sorted out quickly when this happens.

2) Can you replace my broken heater for me?

Yes absolutely, if you have bought a replacement and need it installed safely and correctly by a qualified electrician then we can carry this out for you. We will check the wiring to the heater is safe, correctly earthed and has a suitably good reading on other tests. We will then install the heater to the manufacturers instructions and check its function before handing back over to you.

3) I don’t want it replaced I want it repaired, can you do this for me?

Unfortunately not. Typically it is far cheaper to replace a fan heater than to repair one. These days, appliances are generally low cost to purchase in comparison to the cost of repairing them. If you have a broken heater then it is likely to be more cost effective to purchase another and have it installed rather than attempt a repair.
