BROKEN LIGHT

Electrical Faults Fixed in Liverpool are specialists in fault finding and electrical repairs but there are occasions when it is much quicker and cheaper to replace a light fitting rather than attempting to repair a BROKEN LIGHT.

We are always happy to carry out the small jobs for you including replacing a light fitting, swapping a socket, installing a new oven and so on. It is always best to get a qualified electrician in to your home to carry out any electrical works that may need doing as they have the test equipment, knowledge, experience and skills to be able to safely carry out electrical work and TEST THE WORK during erection and on completion.

Whenever we carry out new light fitting installation for a customer, we do not simply screw a new light to the ceiling and then leave. We will carry out any other necessary work whilst we are there such as making good any ends of cable that may be dangerous, sleeving electrical conductors to identify them correctly and protect them from damage. We will carry out electrical testing to ensure that the earthing of the circuit is sound and to ensure that if you have an electrical fault at any point that your home will be safe, and you will be safe.

1) Can you repair an outside light?

There are several things we can do with an outdoor light if you are determined to keep the fitting. Sometimes the old halogen flood light fittings can blow bulbs which then require replacing. Whilst we are happy to replace these for you if you have the suitable lamp, we will always recommend removing the old fitting and installing a brand-new LED style floodlight. These are much more energy efficient and generally cost around 10 times less to run than an old halogen fitting, a factor which is very important with the ever-rising costs of energy at the time of writing.

If the outdoor light is very rusty then we may not be able to open the fitting without destroying the fitting and as such it will be necessary to replace the whole fitting rather than attempting a repair to the fitting.

2) Can you replace a broken kitchen light?

We can replace the fluorescent tube for you if you have a spare, we can replace the starter for you as well but quite often these light fittings have seen better days by now and replacing them for LED fittings is a good move.  LED fittings are energy efficient, every bright for the same wattage or less and normally have a very good lifespan.

You can email us or call us for a quote to replace your existing light fitting with an LED alternative. We are always happy to offer free quotes and helpful advice where possible.

3) The lights in my bathroom are not working can they be fixed?

So, if you have a BROKEN LIGHT in your bathroom then it can sometimes be caused by a faulty or failed transformer. Many bathroom lights were Extra Low Voltage of around 12 volts and required a transformer to step down the 230 volts to 12 volts. These transformers have a limited life span and when they fail, they will stop supplying power to the light(s). We can replace transformers for you but there are normally better and more efficient LED alternatives that can offer brighter light whilst using a lot less electric.

Old Halogen lamps that were installed in 12-volt lights used a lot of power and generated a lot of heat which was a waste of energy.

4) All my lights have gone off in the house, help!

Whilst we could replace all the light fittings, it is unlikely that all light fittings have failed simultaneously and more likely that there is a fault on the circuit. This can sometimes happen when a light bulb blows, and this may cause a circuit breaker to trip in your electrical box / consumer unit / fuse box. Go and check your fuse box to see if anything has tripped and reset it if necessary.

If you find that nothing has tripped, and you can’t seem to get it back on then give us a call and we will come out to investigate for you.

5) My light is crackling and popping what do I do?

You need to go and turn off your lights at your electrical box / consumer unit. Cracking and popping are not a normal sound. Find the switch that is marked lights and turn it off.  Then call an electrician, us or anyone else but just get someone there to sort that out for you. These kinds of sounds are caused by miniature explosions of electrical current surging and arcing. It is imperative that this is investigated without delay as it could cause permanent damage to your wiring and even present a serious fire risk.
