1) If you are searching for someone to connect an electric cooker in Liverpool then we can certainly help with that.
The photograph shows wiring that we typically come across when we are called to disconnect or reconnect electric cookers. Yes. There it could do with a clean behind there, but who does that regularly really? It is not pretty for Instagram or Facebook but its real and we are here to help.
Connecting an electric cooker requires reading the manufacturer’s instructions. Often the manufacturer will specify that a specific type of cable needs to be used in order to connect their cooker safely in accordance with their own requirements. Some manufacturers say that standard grey cable, such as can be seen in the photograph above, is ok, whilst others will specify that a heat resistant or rubberised cable must be used in order to safely connect their appliance to the electrical supply.
Whatever the requirements for correct and safe cooker installation, rest assured we can carry out the installation for you.
Back to top2) I do not have an electric cooker at the moment is that a problem?
We understand that sometimes our customers will switch from electric cookers to gas cookers and will require an electrical supply feeding in to the kitchen to supply the cooker. If there is currently no electrical supply to the kitchen for your new electric cooker then you will need to contact us to discuss your requirements.
It may not be necessary to run a dedicated circuit to your new appliance if, for instance, the appliance is not high powered or is able to be powered locally from a dedicated circuit. There are multiple options when having a new cooker installed.
3) My electrics are really old, will there be an issue?
The older the electrical system, the more likely there are to be issues. When carrying out work on an electrical system, electricians are required to ensure that the system including its earthing are sufficient for any alterations or additions and as such, this can involve extra unforeseen cost especially when the system is particularly old. There can be a large safety discrepancy between very old systems and the current requirements of safety in the electrical wiring regulations.
Your electrician will guide you as to the work necessary to bring an older electrical system up to modern safety standards so try not to worry. If you are at all unsure you are welcome to contact us, even if we are not local to you, we are happy to help with answering any questions.
Back to top4) Can you also replace the electric hob whilst you are there?
We are happy to replace an electric hob for you and undertake any wiring work that needs to be done. If you require a new electric hob wiring in then we can undertake this for you. Most modern electric hobs come supplied with a 13 amp plug which is very convenient and will, at minimal cost, get you up and running. Many of our customers find that this can be a problem when attempting to cook on several rings at once. Electric hobs are a very power-hungry appliance and often require a much beefier supply than 13 amps in order to function optimally. This is most noticeable when attempting a Sunday roast or large family dinner at holiday time. Your electrician can confirm if you need a more powerful supply and bigger cable to your kitchen to power your electric hob.
Back to top5) Swapping a single oven for a double oven
When swapping a single oven for a double oven, the new power requirements need to be considered along with the ability of your current fuse box or consumer unit to provide those new power requirements. A single oven will typically require up to 13 amps of electrical current in order to function. This can often be provided by a FCU or fused connection unit whereas a double oven will often need 20 amps in order to function correctly. This is where the necessity for a dedicate electrical cable comes in. It is simply not possible to connect an oven of this power to the socket circuit. Often, a single oven will benefit from, or require, its own electrical supply depending upon the requirements of the manufacturer and the wiring regulations. Your electrician will be able to guide your through the process of upgrading your electrical oven supply and installing whatever is necessary to get you cooking. 😊

Back to top7) New cooker supply cost?
The costs for installing a new cooker circuit in your home can vary greatly but typically are between £250 and £750. The cost greatly depends upon a few factors:
- The age of your current electrical system
- Any upgrades that may be necessary before a new circuit can be installed
- The length of the run and size of the cable
- Any obstacles that are in the way along the run
- The complexity of the installation
- The condition of the earthing in the electrical installation
- No two electric cooker circuits will be the same, each home is different and therefore will present a different set of challenges to installation.
