Electrical problem in Warrington

Electrical problems in Warrington can occur at any time of the day or night.

And in many cases they cannot be seen in advance by the owner of the electrical installation. In reality, a lot of these electrical issues have been slowly getting worse over time and all of a sudden have reached a point where the protective devices in your consumer unit / fuse box have operated because the problem is sufficiently bad to activate them. If you have an ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IN WARRINGTON , Liverpool or anywhere in between then don’t hesitate to contact us.

Electrical problems can occur in old installations as well as newer installations. Any number of factors can have an affect on electrical installations.

  • Temperature
  • Weather
  • Rodents
  • Insects
  • Overuse / overloading
  • Poor Installation

All of these things can cause problems with our electrical installations and leave us without power or with a consumer unit or fuse board that is tripping switches or blowing fuses.

Temperature can cause wiring to heat up causing issues with heat dissipation in the cables. If a cable cannot get rid of its heat it can melt and cause a fire hazard. Colder temperatures can cause condensation which then gets into wiring and electrical accessories causing short circuits, damage to the insulation of the conductors in the circuit and causing the consumer unit and its various protective devices to trip.

Weather similar to temperature, this can cause issues with excessive heat, cold and wet. Damp, rain, water are one of the most common causes of electrical circuits tripping the consumer unit. When water enters the electrical system it can cause absolute havoc. That pond pump at the bottom of the garden could well be the reason your cooker has gone off!!

Rodents are a major headache for homeowners and can wreak havoc in wiring systems. They are a nuisance and can ruin the nicest of homes. Rodents can be disturbed when local building work commences, when land is being cleared or when there is lots of food left about and I’m sure a whole bunch of other situations can attract them too. Rodents love the PVC cabling and chew on it causing wires to become damage and electrical installations to fail. If you have had rodents affect your home then I cannot recommend strongly enough that you have a full electrical inspection carried out to include as much of the loft and voids as possible!!!!

Insects are another headache for wiring. We have visited more than one property where a whole host of ants had invaded the back of some sockets and had caused enough mayhem for the consumer unit to trip the circuit off. A hoover was the way forward when dealing with that situation!!! We visited an ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IN WARRINGTON where ants had tripped the consumer unit causing no end of problems.

Overuse or overloading is a problem for our wiring systems. Sometimes it can be poor electrical design of the wiring system not leaving enough capacity for the likely use of the circuit and sometimes wiring systems are simply abused. No matter what the reason, regular overloading or overuse will damage the cabling and cause premature wear on the entire installation. This will mean a rewire needs to happen sooner than necessary.

Poor Installation is cause for many emergency calls to us. Weekend DIY light fitting installations, sockets being swapped and so forth. There are many jobs that can be undertaken by the confident DIY er but electrical work is unfortunately not one of them. Every electrical job has to be measured, tested and inspected correctly in accordance with the wiring regulations. Resistance measurements and fault currents have to be measured and calculated and the readings understood to ascertain if compliance with the regulations has been achieved. There is no one other than an electrician that is capable of performing this work. We have to check that our work is correct, safe, has a sufficient earth path to the origin of the installation and many other checks. Complex eh?

We are out of hours, 24 hour electricians and we attend all sorts of emergencies day and night so we are well experienced and skilled in putting things right when they have gone wrong. We can repair most issues and find most faults very quickly but there are some properties we attend where an hour or two of our time will never undo the decades of neglect to the wiring system. Unfortunately in some cases there is simply not a lot we can do. We can occasionally get you a stand alone temporary power supply set up and operational so you can have power whilst we gather materials for the repair.

Please do not worry though we will not leave you in the lurch. We are able to carry out any electrical work necessary and recommend trusted colleagues if our timescale is not fast enough in some instances.
We are often asked if there is anything that can be done to prevent electrical issues from happening and the answer is to have an electrical inspection carried out every 10 years. If an electrical inspection is done every ten years then we can often see problems coming before they start to cause power loss, nuisance tripping and other issues.

There was a recent emergency call to WARRINGTON where the ELECTRICAL PROBLEM would not show itself and we had restored power but were not able to replicate the situation and make the consumer unit trip again. Very frustrating at times, intermittent faults sometimes have to manifest into permanent faults for us to pin them down and fix them. In these cases we will ask you to become the detective and tell you what to look for as you live with the installation you will be able to monitor things much better than we can.

There are unusual issues that can occur such as a consumer unit tripping every night at 9:30pm as people are going to bed. This problem turned out to be a trapped cable between a floor board and a joist under the floor on the landing.
