1) When you need electrical repairs in your home you need an expert to ensure your safety.

We understand that you worry about electrical safety as do many other people and your safety is our primary concern. That is why all electrical repairs are carried out in accordance with the latest amendment of the electrical wiring regulations and building regulations. We ensure that any wiring we undertake is carried out in accordance with BS7671 wiring regulations and where necessary you will receive a certificate for any works carried out.

We will carry out any electrical repair job for you, no matter how small, we are happy to help. Many electricians will only carry out the larger jobs such as house rewiring or installing electrical supplies to buildings but we are happy to tackle anything for you. If you need us we will do all the little jobs you need such as:

  • Swapping a broken light switch
  • Changing a broken light fitting
  • Swapping a damaged socket
  • Adding more sockets or switches
  • Changing fuses or repairing consumer units
  • Replacing a plug or cord
  • New loft light

We understand that it is hard to get an electrician to come out and carry out the small jobs for you but we will do this, clean up after ourselves and ensure that everything is done properly.

2) Tackle repairs myself?

It's vital that you leave electrical work to a skilled and competent professional that can ensure work is carried out safely. We not only have the training and understanding of electrical systems, earthing systems and dangerous situations but we have the specialist test equipment and the understanding to use this. We test any work that is carried out to ensure that in the event of a fault, your electrical system will do its job properly and turn off the electrical supply. Without a competent electrician, there is no way to know if your earthing is properly connected throughout the installation, the wiring is safe and the work carried out is to the relevant standard.
It is always tempting to try to save money by watching DIY videos on the internet but this is not cabinetry or plastering this is serious and dangerous stuff! The how to videos will not show you properly how to undertake electrical work. ☹

3) What about a trip switch problem?

Trip switches can often appear to cause problems. In reality they trip because there is an electrical issue in your home. These should not be ignored if the trip switch is going off regularly. These switches are designed to trip infrequently whilst saving your cabling from damage and you from electric shock in many cases. Rarely is a trip switch itself actually faulty unless it has been reset too many times and now needs replacing.

The best thing you can do if your trip switch is tripping regularly is to call us. We will need to come and carry out some fault finding to ascertain the cause of the problem and carry out electrical repairs it if necessary.

4) What about electric box repairs?

If you need repairs to your electrical box (also known as a fuse box or a consumer unit) then we can definitely help with this. There are many components in an electric box and they can occasionally go wrong or become damaged over time. We carry many spares for all different types of electrical box and can often carry out the repairs same day.

If your electrical box is older then there may be some difficulty obtaining new parts for it and whilst used parts are sometimes available, the safety and condition of these cannot always be guaranteed. In these cases it may be necessary to replace the electric box but we will always give you the best advice for your particular situation. We will not carry out unnecessary electrical repairs and always aim to repair where possible.

7) One side of my socket doesn’t work?

If you have a double socket where one side does not work then it is likely that the socket is very old and has failed. If this is the case then it is recommended that the socket is swapped and replaced with a new one. Sockets that have failed in this way are no longer safe to use and should be changed.

8) My light switches feel “spongy”?

When a light switch begins to fail, the internal mechanisms become loose and can cause the switch to lose its ‘click’ and feel very soft. This is potentially dangerous and we have known the switch part to fall out leaving access to live parts inside the switch mechanism. If you have any light switches that feel like this then its important that they are changed as soon as possible.

9) I have a cracked socket?

Cracked sockets can become this way for a variety of reasons:

  • Damage from an impact
  • Overheating in the socket
  • Overheating in the plug
  • General wear and tear

Whatever the reason for the socket having become cracked it is important that it is replaced immediately. A cracked socket is dangerous as it does not take much for it to fall apart and leave live parts available to the touch. Certain electrical repairs cannot wait and need to be rectified as soon as possible. For more information, contact us today - Your local electrician in Liverpool.
