Electrician now Liverpool - fault finding & repairing

1) When you need an ELECTRICIAN NOW LIVERPOOL we are always available for emergency electrical assistance.

There are many reasons why you might need an electrician immediately to attend your home. When you need an electrician immediately, you need an emergency electrician.

The photograph above shows a job that we attended where there had been previous problems and a couple of DIY attempts had failed to repair the issue. This had created an absolute mess of burnt wiring and problems. Sometimes when faulty socket wiring occurs, it is possible to repair the wiring in the back of the socket however, in this case, there were too many cables and too little room in order to safely repair and extend the wiring in the back of the socket box. The safest option here was to simply remove the plug socket front and repair the wiring then install a blanking off plate. 😊

We come across many different electrical issues that require urgent electrical help such as:

  • Burnt Sockets
  • Trip Switch Tripping
  • Flickering Lights
  • Buzzing Noises
  • Popping noises
  • Burning Smells

There are many more electrical situations that occur that may require immediate electrical assistance but these are the most common. Typically, these electrical emergencies occur because the electrics are old, there are faulty appliances affecting the electrical circuits or there has been a lack of maintenance to the electrical system.
Burnt Sockets can be dangerous if not replaced or repaired quickly. Sockets typically become burnt through overloading or loose connections. These loose connections can occur on the terminals on the back of the socket, the moving parts within the socket or the plug that has been inserted could be faulty / have loose connections. High powered appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines and others can exacerbate the situation and speed up the process of failure. When connections become loose inside electrical equipment and accessories, there is a high electrical resistance preventing the smooth and easy flow of electrical current to the appliances. This tends to generate a lot of heat and will cause problems like melting and burning.

2) Trip switch tripping⚠️

A trip switch tripping is an indication that something is not right with the electrical system in the property. Switches in the electric box (consumer unit) are designed to trip when they sense a problem in the electrical system. This could be something like a faulty appliance, someone receiving an electric shock or damage on the wiring. Different switches trip for different reasons which can make the problem difficult to diagnose for someone other than an electrician. Regardless of the reason, a switch that is tripping should not be repeatedly reset as it will eventually fail and may well cause damage to the electrical wiring and system in the process.

3) Flickering lights⚠️

Flickering lights are relatively common and there can be many harmless reasons for this. For example, if the lights dim momentarily when a high-powered appliance is turned on then this can be relatively normal. The moment should be barely noticeable and the lights should immediately return to full brightness. This phenomenon is caused by the voltage drop as the power-hungry appliance switches on and once the appliance is running, everything returns to normal. If, however, the lights dim randomly, flicker or appear dimmer than normal, then this can indicate that there are other problems in the electrical system. These types of problems could be something potentially serious and should be investigated without delay as further issues could develop if left without attention.

4) Buzzing noises⚠️

Buzzing Noises Certain buzzing noises are normal within an electrical system. One of the most common concerns for our customers is the bell transformer making a noise. A doorbell transformer takes the incoming electrical supply and lowers the voltage to a safer level that will not harm anyone that touches it. When this happens there is a buzzing noise from the transformer which is completely normal. It is also normal for transformers to get warm in normal operation.

If there is a buzzing noise from elsewhere in the electrical system then this may be something that needs investigating. Trip switches can buzz at times when they are particularly worn or on their way out of operation. Any unusual noise in an electrical system should be investigate by an electrician.

5) Popping noises⚠️

Popping Noises are generally not good. In fact, I cannot think of a normal electrical popping noise other than the sound of a popcorn machine spitting fresh popcorn all over the place 😊 If you are experiencing popping noises from your sockets, consumer unit or anywhere else in the electrical system then it’s generally bad. An electrical popping noise can indicate that electrical arcing is taking place. This is a situation where electricity is jumping a high resistance air gap, along with the high resistance, extreme temperatures are also produced when this happens and as such the risk of burning and fire is relatively serious.

6) Burning smells⚠️

Burning Smells are bad. I’m not talking about the toast first thing in the morning, accidents happen. When electrical systems are in such distress that burning smells are being produced then there is a real risk that fire is also occurring within the electrical system somewhere. Electrical burning is usually accompanied by a fishy plastic type smell as PVC insulation melts and burns along with electrical accessories. If you suspect this is happening then call an electrician immediately as there is likely lasting damage that needs an ELECTRICIAN NOW LIVERPOOL.
