1) When do I need an emergency electrician?

1.0.1) There are various times when you may need an “Emergency Electrician in Birchwood” and there are times when your electrical problem may not be an emergency.

This depends on a few things and how you are able to cope with the electrical problem that you may be having as well.

If you have absolutely no sockets in the house that are working and your fridges and freezers are at risk of defrosting or perhaps there is no power at all then this is the best time to call an emergency electrician. If you have some socket not working but are able to manage or can wait a few days with the situation you have then you might be able to get a normal working hours electrician to come out and have a look at your electrical issues. This may save some cost as emergency, immediate service always costs a little more.

2) How do I find an emergency electrician?

One of the best ways to find an emergency electrician is to use an internet search engine. Once you have performed the search you then have to sift through the results to try to find a reliable and trustworthy company to carry out the work for you.

Google is great as there are online reviews attached to each company and you can look through them to see how the company has treated its customers and what the customers experience has been. Another great way to see if the company is legitimate and does good work is to have a look at their website. An upfront and honest company will have a great website with lots of information, videos introducing themselves and explaining what they do and help sheets for customers to read or download that can assist in making decisions about electrical projects or even deciding who to use in an emergency.

3) How long does an emergency electrician take to come out?

Most emergency electricians will be able to attend the same day and usually within a few hours.  They should be able to respond to your emergency quickly and make safe your home electrics, restore power to most of the property and possibly complete the repair all in the same visit.

Sometimes there are issues that require the electrician to purchase parts, quote for further repairs or come back for a second visit after making safe if the repair is likely to take a long while. The important thing is that the wiring is safe to leave and that at least some power is restored.

4) How do I book an emergency electrician?

Most emergency electricians will take some details over the phone such as your address, email address, name and telephone number. They may also require that you pay for the first hour of labour before they attend. This should not worry you. In order to serve customers fairly and quickly emergency electricians need to secure your booking by taking an initial payment. This is a guarantee of your appointment and most companies will accept credit or debit card giving you some peace of mind.

Once you have your booking confirmed then the company will normally give you an ETA so you know when the electrician is likely to arrive. Sometimes they can offer share my route via Google Maps which is a great feature so you can see exactly where your electrician is and when they will arrive.

Even though you may call an “EMERGENCY ELECTRICIAN BIRCHWOOD” you may find that your electrician lives somewhere else or serves a much wider area than just this. This is fairly common as most emergency electricians will be able to travel and will likely cover a wider area than just one village or small town.

5) What times of day can I call?

Most emergency electricians will operate 24 hours a day / 7 days per week but you should check their website for this information. Electricians that have a listing on the internet such as Google search engine will also have their opening times listed and will regularly update their opening times so customers know when they can call. It is fine to call any time of day or night when you have an emergency that needs attending but if you have general enquiries about electrical projects or just require some advice then most will only accept these calls during normal business hours. 😊

6) How much does it cost for an emergency electrician?

This will often depend upon when you call them and when you need their attendance. For Evenings, weekends and bank holidays you will often be charged more than during normal working hours. The charges for the first hour are normally higher than for subsequent hours in order to cover travel costs amongst other things. Then there is the cost of any parts required in order to repair the electrical installation. Parts are not normally included in any initial costs and will be an extra cost to the overall job. The cost for parts will depend on what exactly is broken or damaged. In all cases, the electrician will inform you of the costs for the parts and any extra labour charges to install them. In some cases, parts will need to be sourced and if the job is particularly large, costly or time consuming then the electrician may provide a quote to return for further works.

It is always helpful for customers if the electrician has their prices listed on the website. For emergency calls our prices are listed here:
