When the lights go out or sockets turn off and you are worried, you need an Emergency Electrician in Liverpool. We can come out quickly and help you get your power back on. We can test the electrics and find out why the power went off in the first place.
There are many reasons why you might need to call us.
- Power has gone off
- Power gone off nothing tripped
- DIY disaster has happened (we have seen it all)
- A socket or a light switch has been damaged and there is danger
- Something has burnt or melted or you can smell burning
- Maybe the lights are flickering
1) Power Has Gone Off?
If your power has gone off, is it because the trip switch won’t stay on?
The power going off could also be something else of course but many consumer units / fuse boxes have a main trip switch that controls the power to all of the circuits in the consumer unit and this is fantastic at preventing electric shock but means that in the event of a fault all the power will go off in the whole property.
2) Power gone off nothing tripped?
IF you find that the power has gone off but nothing has tripped then its best to call 105 freephone. This number will put you through to the company in your area that looks after the electricity supply cables from the power station all the way to your Mains Equipment just before your electric meter. Once you get through the menus on the phone, they will be able to tell you if there are planned electrical works in your area that are affecting the electricity supply to your home.
If you have no luck with these people then contact your electricity supplier to check if the meter is working ok. They may be able to do some remote tests to ascertain if there are any problems with the metering equipment.
Back to top3) DIY Disaster Has Happened?
Hands up who has never made a mistake?
If you find that you have drilled through a cable, broken a socket or bashed a consumer unit cover off the wall then it's best that you give us a call so we can get the problems sorted and remove the danger!
Painting and wallpapering can also result in water running into electrical plug sockets and switches shorting them out and causing absolute mayhem. Water can cause electrics to short out, arc and cause a fire in some circumstances. The more modern your wiring and consumer unit the better protected you are from these types of disasters but make no mistake, if you have gotten water into electrics you should get an emergency electrician out to check the wiring for you and replace any parts that have been affected.
Back to top4) A socket or a light switch has been damaged and there is danger
When electrical accessories become damaged, there is a good chance that live parts will be exposed and dangerous. If live parts are not exposed then it may only take a further small knock for this to happen.
Damaged electrical accessories can include things like:
- Burnt plug socket
- Loose Plug Socket
- Melted Plug Socket
- Loose Light Switch
- Water in the Consumer Unit
- Burnt Electrical Box

Back to top5) Something has burnt or melted or you can smell burning

Back to top6) Maybe the lights are flickering?
If you find that the lights are flickering then you may have electrical problems originating on the lighting circuit or there may be general electrical problems affecting the main fuse box.
Flickering lights are usually a sign that there are voltage fluctuations which could be caused by high resistances at the supply. This may mean there is smouldering or burning at the consumer unit!
If you are at all unsure then it's best to contact your local 24-hour electrician to come and investigate the problem for you.

If you find that your electrics are tripping frequently then it may be a very good idea to have an electrical inspection carried out. We regularly undertake electrical safety checks for new and existing customers and produce a written report on the condition of the installation. When we carry out these checks for you, if we find anything that needs further investigation then we will explain why and give you an estimate or quote for the work.
If you find that your electrics don’t trip but the power sometimes goes off then this could indicate a serious problem and it is important that you have this investigated without fail. Regular electrical checks are the best way to find out the condition of your electrical installation and to ensure the safety of everyone that uses the electrics in your home. It is recommended that the electrical installation is inspected every 10 years. Normally there is a sticker on your consumer unit / fuse board indicating when the last inspection was carried out. If there is not a sticker and you have no paperwork from the last inspection or do not know when it was then it may be sensible to have an inspection carried out. If the sticker on the consumer unit is more than 10 years old then again, have an inspection carried out.
