Electrician in Liverpool

When do I call an emergency electrician?

There are many times when you may need to call. If you need an EMERGENCY ELECTRICIAN NEAR ME then we are available to help across the North West.

An emergency electrician can help with problems such as:

  • No sockets
  • No power
  • Power cut
  • Burning smell
  • Flickering lights
  • Trip switch problems

If you find that you have no sockets in your home that are working then that is the time to call an emergency electrician. An electrician can test the electrical circuit and carry out fault finding to establish what has caused the problem. It is important that you clear all your furniture away from sockets and switches so the electrician can get to them to test and check what’s happening.

The electrician will also need access to the consumer unit / fuse box to be able to test and investigate the wiring inside to establish what faults there are on the circuit that is affected. Electricians carry out extensive testing on circuits to find the issues and fix them.

If you have an issue in your home that has left you with no power then this is also a problem that an emergency electrician can help with. As an electrician in Liverpool we cover all postcodes and beyond towards Warrington and we are able to help our customers when the worst happens and there is total power loss.

There are times when a power cut can strike and all the lights and sockets in your home will be affected. If this happens the best course of action is to check that nothing has tripped in your electrical box / consumer unit / fuse box and if there are no apparent problems there then it may be that there is a local power cut. Before calling an emergency electrician to come and investigate it is worth calling 105 to establish if there is a problem in the street or with the supply from the transformer to your home. 105 will put you through to the company responsible for the power supply to your home. If they say there are no problems then its time to call an electrician.

Burning smell problems that come from electrical accessories or wiring can be serious and should not be ignored. When there is an electrical burning smell it is because something has overheated and melted or caught fire. It is indicative of more serious issues in the electrical installation and that is the time to call an electrician to come and check things out. Just search on the internet for EMERGENCY ELECTRICIAN NEAR ME and you should find a couple of local electricians that can help.

Flickering lights are sometimes just a temporary issue and resolve themselves. For example a heavy load switching on nearby to your home or within your home can cause lights to flicker momentarily. You may see the lights dim slightly when a hoover is switched on for example. This is because a hoover has a powerful electric motor which draws a very high current on start-up and causes the voltage in the property to drop for a fraction of a second causing the lights to dim. Similar to starting the car with the lights on, you will always see the lights dim slightly when the starter motor fires up. If the lights are flickering or dimming regularly then have your electrics checked out sooner rather than later as this can indicate that there are other problems occurring.

Trip switch problems are common and more often that not, the cause is not the trip switch but rather an electrical fault on a circuit in your home. When a trip switch trips there is often a spark as well. The spark is often completely normal and is the trip switch getting rid of a high electrical fault current safely. What you shouldn’t do is reset the switch again and again as there is clearly a problem causing the switch to blow and this needs to be investigated. Resetting the switch over and over may seem “to work” but in fact it is doing nothing but wearing the switch out and creating more expensive problems.

If you find that your trip switch will not reset at all or has been reset many times and now doesn’t work then you definitely need an electrician to come and sort the problem out for you. Electrical problems are potentially very dangerous and only someone suitably qualified and experienced should carry out work on electrical installations.
The photograph shows a shower pull cord isolator switch that caught fire one evening. There had been signs prior to this indicating that problems were occurring but the homeowners did not recognise the signs and as such the problem got worse and worse. We were able to make the circuit safe and provide some electric shock protection along with replacing the shower switch and re routing the cable away from danger in the loft.

Do not worry if you have electrical problems, call the experts to come and investigate for you. We are here to help and specialise in electrical problems in the home.
