There are times when you may be concerned about the condition of your homes electrical system and the wiring, the sockets, switches and so on. Your local electrician in Liverpool will explain what might be the most common problem.
Messy wiring is not itself normally a problem and will not on its own normally cause issues. However, there are occasions when messy wiring IS a problem.
If the wiring has been completed in a hurry and little care has been taken to install the wiring neatly then issues can arise a little further down the line. The photograph above shows the inside of a consumer unit. The wiring in here is a little messy and there are a few issues. One of the cables had pressed against another so much that it had caused a short circuit. The general mass of cables in here had then been forced together so much more when the lid for the consumer unit had been put on.
Neat wiring is much easier on the eye and can be reassuring for the homeowner that a job has been carried out well. This is not always the case but if the wiring inside the consumer unit is neat then it is likely that care has been taken in the rest of the installation. No one will ever really look inside the consumer unit other than an electrician and if care has been taken where no one will look then we know that whoever installed the wiring or consumer unit took pride in their job.
Sometimes messy wiring is inevitable if we are adding onto other work which is messy and the customer does not want everything tidied up. We always work as neatly as we can. The above consumer unit is not one of ours but to be fair, the installation of this unit must have been rather tricky. It is inside an under stairs cupboard, under some shelves and buried in the back corner!!
Messy wiring can lead to excessive pressure causing faults, it can make things difficult when installing accessories such as sockets and switches and can prove very challenging for the next electrician to come in to perform any testing that may be required.
Depending on where the messy wiring is installed it may also create a trip hazard or a catching hazard where it is not secured properly, perhaps looped around things or just susceptible to mechanical damage due to the manner in which it has been installed.
If you are at all worried about any messy wires you may have in your home or perhaps the fuse board / consumer unit looks very old then just drop us a call and we can have a chat about it. We are happy to look at any photos your might send and offer some advice.
