Main Switch in Consumer unit

As an out of hours emergency electrician we find that our customers regularly have no power in their property when they call us. This can be something very simple or something more complicated.

In the first instance if you have absolutely no power in the property you need to go and check your fuseboard / consumer unit / trip switch box or whichever name you know it by. This box is often found near the front door or under the stairs, let’s hope you thought ahead and left a torch near it. 😊

If something has tripped, then turn it back on and if nothing has tripped then we have other issues. More information on this can be found on our website under the “Help sheets” section.

Sometimes there is just a power cut locally and everything will be restored soon but sometimes there is another issue causing the power loss. Ring 105 and see if there are power cuts in your area.

If you have tried all the above and nothing has worked and you have followed the advice on our help sheets on the website then it is best if you give us a call so we can come and investigate. It is important not to worry about fridges and freezers, most will survive at least 12 hours if left shut and not opened.

The picture above is a Main Switch in a consumer unit that had burnt out and caused total power failure to the property. We carry a massive stock on the van of different branded parts so can normally replace these for you whilst we are on site. We also hold stock in a secure unit of other less common parts so can source these whilst shops are closed. Sometimes parts are obsolete and cannot be sourced without special order taking many days, again we try to hold stock of everything so we can restore your power quickly and save your food for you. 😊

If you have power loss in your property, then call us out to help.
