The first photograph shows a boiler that had no power.
We were called out to investigate why there was on heating or hot water in the property. When we arrived we found that the boiler display was not working. We removed the cover of the boiler an began our investigation!
We quickly traced the issue to loose wiring in the wiring control centre. This was all rectified and the boiler was back up and running within the first hour of our attendance.
There are many reasons why there may be no power to the boiler. In our case there was a loose neutral cable causing problems. Other issues can be:
- Loose line conductor
- Blown Fuse / No Fuse
- Wiring Faults at boiler
- PCB blown
- Circuit breaker tripped
- Loose wires in boiler
There are occasionally other issues that can mean power failure to the boiler and we are always happy to investigate for you. We normally fix most electrical issues within the first hour of our attendance and investigation. We are also, at the time of writing, Gas Safe so we are able to investigate inside boilers safely and carry out any necessary repairs.
The other photograph shows the same boiler after we had fixed the problem and been able to restore power to the boiler. You can see that the display is now lit up and the issue has been rectified.
Central heating and hot water are absolutely vital and basic necessities. It is imperative that boilers are functioning correctly and have an adequate power supply. When power supply issues begin to affect your boiler the risk of component failure, parts failure and damage caused by poor electrical supply increase dramatically. If you have no power to the boiler there are often basic checks that you can make yourself. We never recommend that you tackle electrical or gas issues as these absolutely have to be undertaken by a professional in order to be carried out safely and legally in many cases. There are however a couple of things that you can try.
- Go to your consumer unit and check if there are any switches in the down position. It may be that a switch has tripped. If there is a switch in the down position, have a look and see what the circuit is labelled. It may be that the circuit is for the boiler and has tripped.
- Check the fuse in the plug that powers your boiler or the Fused Connection Unit that powers the boiler. Often these fuses can blow and require replacement. It will normally be a 3 amp fuse that is required if you have any spare.
- See if there is an RCD unit near the boiler. Sometimes these can trip and cause power to fail to the boiler. If you reset this and it trips again, you must call an electrician to come and investigate the issue. RCD and circuit breakers do not simply trip for no reason. They trip when they sense a fault. If you continually reset these devices without the cause of the problem being investigated by an electrician then you risk appliance damage, cable damage and RCD / Circuit Breaker failure.
If none of the above things has worked then its best to call us to come and investigate. We do operate 24/7 however we do not take general enquiry calls out of hours. Only call out of hours if you require our attendance please. 😊
Aside from that, we are available via email or phone to help you with any problems that you may be having. Do not struggle on with electrics that are tripping or faults that are causing problems. Call us and we will come and help. If you have no power to the boiler call us now!
