Now for those of you that don’t know, a consumer unit is also called a fusebox, a fuseboard, an electric trip switch box, a distribution board and so on. There are many names used to refer to this box of tricks that sits in the corner of your home, the garage, under the stairs and so on.
The importance of this box cannot be underestimated. This box along with certain other safety aspects of your electrical system is paramount in order to keep you and your family safe. There is a help sheet on our website which talks more about this.
If your consumer unit looks like the one in the picture then it may need changing. If your electrical installation has not been inspected in the last 10 years then it will need and electrical inspection carried out. Hidden dangers can develop over the years that only Qualified and Experienced electricians can assess with the correct test equipment. You can tell if your electrical installation was inspected recently by checking the sticker on your consumer unit. If the date has long expired then call us! If there is no sticker on your consumer unit stating the next date of inspection then call us quicker! There is a chance that your installation has not been inspected since it was installed.
If your consumer unit looks like the one pictured then it is a minimum of around 40 years old. You wouldn’t run a car for 40 years without undertaking some checks so don’t take the risk with electricity in your home.
