neutral conductor

If you find yourself without any power at all, not even the lights working then it is likely that there is a power cut in your area, or something has tripped at the consumer unit / fusebox / electrical box in your home.

Firstly, go to your consumer unit / fuseboard / trip switch box or whatever you wish to call it. This will normally be somewhere out of sight in your home, no doubt covered in coats and shoes 😊. Once you have found this, check, and see if any switches are in the down position and if so, see if you can reset them. If not…… then read on.

You could ask the neighbours if they are also in the dark but often the neighbours will be just fine even if your power is off!! The reason for this is that the power line that comes into your home is sometimes different to that of your neighbours. There are usually 1,2 or 3 different power lines buried in the street and it is not unusual for your neighbour to be on the second or third line and your own home on the first.

You could try ringing 105 and navigating through the telephone menu to speak to an operator. The line is always available and there is always someone there to talk to. Ask about local power cuts in your area before calling for our help. This may save you time and money.

If all of this has not worked and you are still sat in the dark then its probably time to pick the phone up and call us. We are your friendly local electrician in Warrington and will always do what we can to help you. 😊

There are many reasons why your power may have gone off and we are experts at finding out why. The photograph above shows an installation that has a broken neutral conductor, an issue hidden in one of the walls at the property.

If you are sat in the dark, can’t get a switch to reset, have no sockets, no lights or no power then call us straight away. We are always happy to visit.
