1) Is there a power cut or is it just my home affected?🏡
First check your fuse box / consumer unit to see if any switches are down. If not then call 105. Calling 105 will put your through to your local electricity network operator. These are the people responsible for the UK electricity network. You should automatically be put through to the local operator for your area. They will be able to tell you if there are problems in your street or locally that may be affecting your power supply. Alternatively, if you are feeling anti-social and do not want chat, you can go on the internet to https://www.powercut105.com/en/ and type in your postcode.
This will tell your who your local provider is and then you can quickly go to their website and enter your postcode for electrical supply and disruption information. Great, eh? 😊
Back to top2) There are no problems in my area what next❓
Okay, so the next call may be to your electricity provider, the company that you pay the bills to. They may be able to give you some more information regarding any issues with your smart meter and if it is working correctly. If there are issues with it then they may be able to tell you.
Back to top3) Done that and still got problems?🤔
Then it is time for an emergency electrician by the looks of it. That is right folks. If there are no problems in the street with the supply coming in to your home and no problems with your electric meter then it is time to call the professionals in.
You did double check that no switches had tripped right?? Are you sure? Check again.
Back to top4) Checked the trip switches what next?💭
If you have done all the above correctly then its time your local emergency electrician paid a visit. There are numerous reasons why an electrical installation may lose power and we have managed to eliminate some of them in the steps above meaning that it is likely that the issue affecting your home is within your home and not the responsibility of the electricity network or electricity supplier.
There could be issues within your fuse box / consumer unit causing a “power cut.” Components can fail, connections can burn out and wiring can become loose. Do not attempt to check any of this yourself, electricity is highly dangerous without the proper training and equipment and should only be dealt with by a professional.
Back to top5) How long does a power cut problem take to fix?⏱️
This very much depends on the nature of the problem. If there are issues with the switches in your consumer unit and they require replacing then this can be carried out on site if your emergency electrician has the parts available. Many parts need to be ordered and can take several days to arrive. We carry a range of modern and obsolete parts for most brands of consumer unit and can repair most trip switch problems very quickly. If there are issues with the main incoming cables into your consumer unit then these may take a while to fix and require new cables. This can be an hour or so to put right.
Most power cut issues can be repaired within a couple of hours unless serious issues have occurred. If a consumer unit has completely failed or has such internal damage that power restoration would not be safe or appropriate then the unit may require replacing. Your electrician will talk you through any options that are available to you.
If we are attending the job for you and you require a new consumer unit then we are normally able to carry this out for you immediately as we carry these in stock.
6) How much does a power cut problem cost to fix?💰
