1) If you have just searched for: "Power Cut Near Me" then you may have electrical problems in your home. Not to worry, we can definitely help you.

FIRSTLY, check your consumer unit and see if anything has tripped?

If NO then call 105 freephone. Calling 105 will put you through to your local electricity network provider, these are the people in charge of maintaining the electricity supply to your property. If there are any known issues in your area or locally that may affect you then these are the people that will know about it.

If YES then it’s possible there is an electrical fault in your home. You should see if the switch will turn back on. If the switch turns back on then that’s great, problem possibly solved and go about your life 😊

If the switch trips back off immediately or within a minute or so then there may be an electrical issue that needs investigating. 2) What sort of problems cause power cuts?⚡

There can be many reasons why a power cut near me type problem would occur. A lot of these issues can be in the home and some of them may be in the street. As mentioned above, any issues that occur in the street will be dealt with by the local electricity network provider. Any issues that occur in the home are the responsibility of the homeowner to source an electrician for.

3) Main Switch Burnt Out⚠️

When a main switch comes to the end of its life it can fail internally causing loose connections and eventual failure. If the wiring in the terminals of the main switch is loose then this can also cause the main switch to fail resulting in burnt cabling and possible damage to surrounding switches.
One of the best ways to avoid main switch failure is to have a periodic electrical inspection carried out and ask the electrician to check all the connections in the consumer unit are correctly torqued to the manufacturer’s specification. Loose wires cause fires.

4) Faulty Meter Tails Isolator⚠️

This is one of the safety components in your electrical system. Many electrical systems do not have an external (outside the consumer unit / fuse box) isolator and it is recommended to have one. For those electrical installations that do have an external isolator, whilst they are a great convenience and safety feature, they can also introduce a potential weak link in the power supply chain. These isolators can often go unchecked for decades meaning that any potential or developing issues with them are missed.

5) Faulty Electric Meter⚠️

If you have a faulty electricity meter then it may cause power cuts in your home. We sometimes come across meters that have simply stopped working and are no longer allowing power supply to the home and meters that have loose connections on the wiring meaning fire risk and power cuts. If you have a modern electricity meter you can sometimes check to see if there is power to the meter as there are lights normally illuminated on the unit itself and / or a screen showing a display.

If you suspect your electricity meter is causing power cuts then its best to call your electricity supplier to ask them to investigate.

Electrical Faults in your home causing tripping switches Certain older designs of electrical installations in our homes will cut the power to the whole property in the event of an electrical fault. It’s possible that an appliance or cable is faulty somewhere in the property and that is the cause of the complete power cut. This is covered in our help sheet, the link to which is above. More modern installations split up the electrical circuits better such that there is no total power loss when an electrical fault occurs. The best electricians will only install consumer units that separate the wiring as much as possible to minimise inconvenience in the event of a fault and to limit any nuisance tripping of circuits.

If you have a power cut near me then it’s important to check with your electricity bills provider and the local network company, after this it’s time to call your local emergency electrician to come and investigate the problem for you.
