1) There are many reasons why you might need temporary power to your property. Whatever the issue is, your local Liverpool Electrician is on hand to help.
It may be that you have suffered a fire or flood and the existing electrical installation cannot be used or perhaps the property is going to be rewired and requires a temporary power supply in order to keep the basics running.
Whatever the reason for the need of TEMPORARY POWER, we can help. The photograph shows a temporary power board that we have set up for a rewire that we were carrying out. We needed some power ourselves in order to run our chasing and dust extraction equipment and this was a good way of getting power to the property whilst the work was carried out.
Back to top2) I have had a major leak and all my electrics are wet, can you set up temporary power for me?
Yes we can do this for you. Almost anywhere in the North West, any time of day or night. We specialise in emergencies and providing temporary power to the domestic sector is quite normal for us. We normally have the materials and equipment ready to go so do not need to delay by visiting a wholesaler for parts. It is often not safe to reinstate power to an electrical installation immediately after water ingress and in any event a full and thorough EICR should be produced following such trauma to an installation.
Back to top3) How long does it take for an emergency electrician to come out to me?
In order that we can visit you in an emergency, we have to drop everything and go. If it is late at night we have to get up, re load the van with everything that is needed and head over. We normally require payment for the first hour of our visit in advance by BACS or Card. This is sent as a link via email. Once this has been paid and confirmed we leave immediately and head straight to you. It is then just a question of how far away we are from you geographically at that moment. We regularly take emergencies in the night so it may be we are closer or further from you than our business location. We normally attend within 60 minutes of payment confirmation.
Back to top4) What is a temporary power supply?
A temporary power supply is a small electrical installation that we connect for you to ensure that you have at least some light and sockets for a short period in the event that your main electrical system is not safe to use. It normally consists of a small consumer unit / fuse board, some sockets and a light with a switch. It is not suitable for electric showers or some electric cookers but with some extension leads it can provide light and some power to your home. It is not intended to replace your electrical system or provide a full and complete solution for you but it is there as an emergency backup to prevent your fridges failing or perhaps to keep a boiler running.
Back to top5) How much does temporary power cost to set up for me?
We charge for our time and the materials we use. This is typically around £450 including materials, installation and testing for safety before making live. Prices can vary but this is a good indication of costs.
Back to top6) What does it involve?
We disconnect your current electrical system from the supply and install our own mini electrical system near to your existing consumer unit. In the event of a flood to your home, we are able to provide power to de-humdifiers that can dry out your walls, floors and ceilings. The power supply we install will be suitable to run several of these large units as well as lighting and some sockets.
Back to top7) What happens after the initial emergency is over?
If we have installed TEMPORARY POWER for you following a flood then we will come and revisit the property to test your home electrical system and produce a report on its condition (EICR). This will detail any deficiencies in your wiring that need to be rectified. We may be able to compare our results with any previous results you have from other testing that may have been carried out and this will give us an idea of any damage that has been caused. Once the EICR is satisfactory we are then able to reconnect your home electrical system and remove the temporary supply for you.
Back to top8) Can you carry out everything for me and liaise with my insurance?
Yes, we are used to dealing with insurers both directly and indirectly. We are able to produce professional reports detailing works carried out, necessary works arising out of the incident(s) that have occurred in your home and will liaise directly with them and yourselves in whichever manner is satisfactory to all parties.
Should any major works be required after any incident then we are happy to quote for these works for you. In the event we too busy and unable to carry out any repair works we have trusted colleagues that we can refer you to if necessary.
Back to top9) How soon after a major leak will you come and inspect the property?
Normally 3 days as a minimum is a sensible approach. It can take up to two weeks to fully dry out a property after a major leak. It is surprising how much water dehumidifiers extract from the building. We are able to recommend a company to supply these de-humidifers if necessary, in fact, we can almost manage the disaster repair from start to finish if you need us to! We are friendly with other trades and can liaise with them directly to get things done if you prefer.
Back to top10) What happens if the inspection shows bad results?
When we carry out an inspection we are checking all the circuits in the property for any signs of damage, poor workmanship, bad wiring and lack of compliance with the wiring regualtions BS7671. If there are issues that are a safety concern then we will not reconnect the affected circuits. We will produce the report and then explain it in clear English to you and produce a list of works (if work is required) to put the installation right again. It is as simple as that.
Back to top11) When can the temporary power go off and the original supply be reinstated?
As above, when the EICR has come back in an acceptable state for the installation to be reconnected.
If you need TEMPORARY POWER then call us now! We are able to help same day / same night in most cases.
