There are many different types of electrical faults that qualified electricians can help with. Electrical wiring is a lot more technical than simply the 3 wires themselves and various factors can cause problems on electrical circuits.
Older homes with older wiring systems are particularly at risk from electrical faults. As electrical equipment like fuse boxes, sockets, and switches age, they begin to cause problems with the consumer unit or fuse box. The electrical wiring can also begin to decay as it ages and start to cause tripping switches at the fuse box. There are some typical faults that could be considered an electrical emergency which we can look at below.
A burning smell is never a good sign which is something I think that we can all agree on. When it comes to electrical burning smells this is even more dangerous when combining the lethal potential of electricity into the mix. If there is a pungent, fishy odour then it is highly likely that wiring, and electrical equipment has caught fire or begun to smoulder. This is a classic electrical emergency situation and you need an emergency electrical contractor immediately.
Where you are experiencing intermittent power cuts you should call 105 freephone to speak with the local distribution network operator. They are the company responsible for dealing with the electrical supply from the power station to your front door effectively. They will be able to inform you if there are any electrical issues in your area that may be affecting your supply to your home.
If they have no information on any electrical problems then it is likely that your intermittent power outages are inside your property and within your electrical system. This means that you will need an emergency electrician to attend to check out the power problems for you.
Check the power supply to the electricity meter as there may be an issue with the meter or supply to it that is causing the power problems in your home. If you suspect that the electric meter is faulty then you should contact your electricity supplier (the company you pay your bills to) and ask them to check it for you.
Switches inside the electrical panel, fuse box or consumer unit are there to perform several safety actions. When they to the right job they will dispose of electrical faults such as a power surge, overcurrent, short circuit created electrical currents and more. When one of these switches trips there are can be many reasons why but the important thing to remember is that there is an electrical problem present that needs investigating.
It’s vital that these switches do not get reset more than once or twice in a short period. Continually tripping switches will cause damage to the electrical wiring from short circuits or other faults. Where there is faulty wiring, electrical accessories or fuse box problems causing tripping switches, it’s important that an experienced electrician is called to carry out an electrical inspection, fault-finding, and investigative works.
Try removing all the plugs from the plug sockets in your home and resetting the switches again. If the switches trip, even with everything unplugged then at least any electrical appliances have been eliminated as a potential cause.
Crackling noises from a fuse box, consumer unit, plug socket or other equipment is an indication that there are serious electrical issues present. Crackling is normally caused by electricity jumping a high resistance gap as would be the case with loose or damaged wiring. Contact your local EMERGENCY ELECTRICIAN IN ABRAM and we will get out to you as soon as possible to establish what has caused the problem.

Back to topFew people are aware that electrical systems actually need to be tested by professional electricians now and then. Commercial properties and residential properties differ in their requirements for electrical testing but if you own your own home, it is highly recommended that you have an electrical inspection carried out every ten years as a minimum. This will not only allow for any developing electrical problems to be picked up but will also demonstrate to your home insurance company that you are maintaining the electrical system.
Electrical testing and inspection are one of the most important maintenance services that can be carried out on a property. A new house does not require this inspection as new electrical systems are tested before being put into service.
Back to topIf you have had an electrical emergency, electrical faults, no recent professional inspection, flooding in your home or other issues that may affect the electrical system then it’s a good idea to have electrical safety testing carried out. Once the electrical check has been completed an EICR certificate will be produced by the electrician. This certificate will state the condition of the electrical installation, what observations have been recorded and whether the system is safe for continued use or not.
