No matter the time of day or night, electrical wiring can go faulty, electrical issues can occur with the consumer unit or Fuse Box and electrical problems can mean that there are dangers present creating the need for an EMERGENCY ELECTRICIAN IN BIRCHWOOD. When an electrical emergency happens, we are here to assist with repairs to the wiring, consumer unit or electrical system. Call us now on 01925 595 980.
Back to topWhen plug sockets overheat there can be serious problems as we can see from the picture below. A burnt plug socket is a serious risk to the fire safety of your home and can mean that without intervention, wiring can be irreparably damaged, trip switches can operate, fuses can blow and in serious cases, there can even be a fire.
A plug socket will overheat when there are loose connections, faulty plug wiring in an appliance (even in a new electrical appliance) or worn-out internal socket mechanisms. Many modern consumer units may detect these kinds of electrical problems and act to turn off the supply but in the case of some older fuse boxes or consumer units, they may not always take appropriate action.
We offer emergency repairs for situations where a plug socket has become dangerous so don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you need repairs to the electrical system.
Back to topWhere you have an electrical emergency or electrical problems, you need a qualified electrician to tackle the repairs, preferably one that specialises in fault finding and emergencies. As a fully qualified electrician and electrical lecturer I can assure you of a fast professional service when tackling any electrical issues that you may have.
Back to topWhen electrical emergency services are required, there is usually something that has become a danger in the electrical system. During the urgent emergency call I will carry out any necessary checks that are needed using specialised and calibrated electrical test equipment. There is, however, no substitute for regular Electrical Safety Checks by a qualified professional.
An electrical safety check can take several hours and should be booked in advance. Many safety tests are carried out during a safety check and a report produced on the condition of the wiring system and consumer unit/electrical panel. We are local electricians in Birchwood that you can trust to carry out thorough electrical safety testing.
Back to topWhilst there is no replacing a full Periodic Electrical Inspection, Electrical Safety Check and Electrical Installation Condition Report carried out by an electrician, there are a number of self-checks that you can carry out yourself without causing any danger.
Check Appliances
Switch off and unplug any equipment before inspecting. Visually examine the cases of appliances, their power cords and plug tops. Inspect for any signs of damage and check for signs of damaged or faulty wiring. Where there is damage to cables there may well be electrical faults present or about to occur. Do not remove the case of the appliance.
Check the Fuse box
Visually inspect the Fuse Box or Consumer unit and check if there are any signs of discolouration, overheating or physical damage to the outer case. Do not remove the case of the Fuse box or attempt to inspect the insides. If there are any holes in the fuse box then contact me immediately and I will offer a free visual inspection to ensure there is no danger present.
Check The Trip Switches (RCD, RCB, RCCB)
There are banks of switches in more modern consumer units and some will have a TEST button equipped. This TEST button is very important as it helps to show that the device is operating as intended. A proper check is recommended by an electrician on occasion as well. The electrician’s test is more thorough and is done using calibrated test equipment.
Only check these test buttons once every 6 months, when the clocks go forward and back is ideal.
Check Extension Leads
In order to prevent a short circuit and to keep electrical equipment in good condition, it’s important to regularly examine any extensions leads that you may have in the property. Where an extension lead is showing signs of damage it may need replacing.
Visually Inspect Switches and Sockets
It’s important to visually check the condition of electrical accessories from time to time. If there are visual signs of discolouration, cracks or if a switch or socket is loose then there is potential danger present.
Where you find loose, damaged, or broken electrical accessories, it is highly recommended that an electrician is contacted to isolate the power, replace the accessories and carry out any required electrical testing afterwards.
