Back to topAn emergency callout electrician is someone that specialises in attending electrical emergencies as quickly as possible. They will likely work late hours, weekends, and holidays to ensure that your urgent repairs are covered.
Electrical faults can occur at any time of day and as such, there is a need for an EMERGENCY CALLOUT ELECTRICIAN ST HELENS to ensure that emergency repairs can be fixed without the need to wait until morning.
As emergency electricians in St Helens, we carry a lot of spare parts and stock, we also have a large stock of spare parts in our lock up just in case they are needed when all the electrical wholesalers are shut. There is little more frustrating for homeowners than having to go without power to certain parts of the home whilst parts are found and delivered.
Back to topThere are many different situations that could be construed as an electrical emergency and require a 24 Hour Emergency Electrician to be called. Such situations would be where you could not manage without the electricity that had been affected. It could be plug sockets that have failed with the risk of ruining the food, keeping medical equipment going of there could be a total power loss.
Such situations include:
This list of emergency electrical situations is not exhaustive but and example of when its time to call an emergency electricians to come and assist with your electrical needs.
Let’s look at each one and examine what could be causing the problem, this may solve the issue for you or help you to understand the reasons behind them.
Back to topWhere lights are flickering there could be several reasons for this. When lights behave in this way it is because there are power supply disruptions to the light bulbs and the result is a flicker as power intermittently gets through.
If one light in the home is flickering then the problem is likely related to that light. Loose connections at the light, failing lighting components and faulty bulbs are all possible causes for this. The best situation is to switch that light off and call us to attend as soon as possible.
It is likely that this situation is NOT an electrical emergency but we are always happy to attend at a moments notice where you feel unsafe.
Where ALL the lights in the house are affected then the situation is likely to be a bit more of a danger. Loose connections in the consumer unit or fuse box, disturbances in the street supply and overheating cables could be the cause of this situation.
Where all the lights are flickering, I would strongly recommend that you call for assistance quickly if the problem does not resolve within a few minutes. It may be worth checking with the local electricity network provider first to see if there are any works that are being carried out that may affect the power supply to your home.
Check your neighbours lights out to see if they appear to have similar problems and consider calling 105 to check if there are any issues that may affect your electricity supply.
Back to topWith a total power loss situation, the best thing to do is to check with your neighbours before calling an emergency electrician. If the neighbours also are without power then the situation is not down to your electrical supply in your home, but rather, out in the street.
Things should be resolved reasonably quickly in this case and there is no need to call an EMERGENCY CALLOUT ELECTRICIAN ST HELENS to attend as the problem is NOT with YOUR electrics.
Where there are no known issues with the neighbours or the power supply network, it is likely that you have issues with your incoming power supply to just your property. This is the time to call a 24-hour electrician as you will need a specialist electrician to find faults and repair the problems for you.
Total power loss could be caused by:
Loose Wiring – Loose electrical cables that come out of the main cut out fuse unit, the mains isolator or the main switch in the consumer unit can cause power loss problems and may be a fire risk. Your power loss issues could be caused by cables that have worked loose over time.
Blown Main Fuse – The Main Fuse for your house is located in the electrical supply cutout unit. This is the small box that is BEFORE the electricity meter. The fuse is contained in here and can occasionally blow if the system has been overloaded or just with age on occasion. The cut out supplies the electricity meter so its easy to locate the cables to that and identify it.
Burnt Out Main Switch – Where a main switch has burnt out, this will cause complete failure to the property.
The main switch receives the incoming power supply cables from the electricity meter or external electric isolator and then sends the supply to all the different circuit switches in the consumer unit.
That is why complete failure occurs when the switch burns out.
Back to topThis situation often occurs before complete power loss. Intermittent power loss can be caused by electrical components that are beginning to fail. Fault Finding is required in order to ascertain the true cause of the intermittent power problems.
Again, it may be sensible to call the local distribution network operator for your area to find out if there are any issues that may be affecting the power supply in your street. Call 105 freephone to check if there are any problems affecting you.
If your neighbours have no issues then it is quite likely that the problem lies with your electrical installation and not in the street.
Give us a call on 01925 595 980, 0151 351 4011 or WhatsApp on 07858 136 955 and we will do our absolute best to help. 😊
Back to topWhere there are no sockets working, it can be one of the most frustrating and worrying electrical issues that you can experience. There are a number of reasons why sockets might not be working but lights are. Has something tripped in the consumer unit or fuse box?
One of the most common causes of socket failure is a trip switch that has operated. If this is the case, then try unplugging all of the appliances from the wall and resetting the switch to see if the power supply comes back on.
Fuse boxes can contain many different switches so double check that there are no switches in the down (OFF) position as it can be easy to miss the first time around.
Back to topThis is definitely a situation where you would need an EMERGENCY CALLOUT ELECTRICIAN ST HELENS, a strange plastic, fishy burning smell is a BAD SIGN. Where this smell is present, the electrical system has already suffered damage and you will need professional electricians to attend to resolve the problem for you.
We are able to carry out emergency electrical works in the St Helens area quickly and efficiently offering a professional service for your peace of mind.
Please do not worry about the burning smell, simply shut off your electrical supply and call us straightaway. We will give you a time to attend and be there when we say we will.
Back to topWhere the fuse box is tripping and won’t stay on, there could be an electrical fault with some of the electrical appliances, an electrical boiler fault, faulty wiring, or water ingress into the electrical system.
In truth, there are many reasons that a fuse box will trip out. If you are experiencing this type of issue, unplug everything in your home, turn off all wall switches and see if the consumer unit or fuse box will reset.
If it is still tripping with nothing plugged in then you will likely need a 24 hour electrician to attend.

Back to topWhat is fault finding? We are often called by worried customers asking for a quote to replace a trip switch because it is faulty.
More often than not, the trip switch is working just fine and does not need replacing. The issue is, there is an electrical fault that needs to be found. We are always happy to quote for trip switch replacement if it is necessary, but in many cases, this will not solve your problems.
Fault finding is the process whereby we use specialist test equipment, experience, and knowledge to interpret test results and pin down the problem to a specific circuit and area of the property. In some cases, an electrical fault will lay hidden under the flooring in a junction box.
In these cases, a permanent repair may necessitate lifting the flooring and replacing the faulty electrical joint or section of cable.
Back to topNot every electrician operates an out-of-hours service as many companies will only carry out day works.
We operate a 24-Hour service to attend your home and investigate issues. If you require an EMERGENCY CALLOUT ELECTRICIAN ST HELENS then let us know and we will be happy to assist.
There are occasions when we cannot help but we will always recommend another company for you to contact in these situations.
Back to topWe aim to get to your electrical issue as soon as physically possible, out of hours calls are attended to more quickly than during normal working hours. During the day, we often have works that are pre-booked and we will have to slot your emergency in between existing jobs. Rest assured, you are our priority and we will get to you as quickly as we can.
Out of hours calls are responded to more quickly as there are no pre-booked works, only emergencies. There is also much less traffic to contend with at night and the weekends.
Back to topShould you require general electrical repair services that are non-urgent then we are more than happy to help you with this. In most cases we should be able to offer a quote for this service. Where fault finding is required in order to provide a quote, we charge by the hour for this service but once the issue is found a quote can be provided.
Under most circumstances, it is possible to immediately repair the electrical fault on site within the fault-finding time at minimal or no additional costs, just the cost for parts and time spent. This saves a return visit and is much more convenient for our customers.

Back to topElectric shock prevention devices are a fantastic piece of technology. The Residual Current Device or RCD for short, detects when somebody might be having an electric shock and turns the power supply off incredibly quickly.
It is important that your electric shock protection is up to date and working correctly. If you have not had the RCD tested by a professional with an RCD testing instrument in the last ten years then it is vital that you have this carried out as soon as possible.
There is a self-test button on the RCD device which is useful to prove that it trips. This is recommended as a self-check every 6 months. An electrician will perform additional checks to ensure that the device is not too sensitive, sensitive enough and that it trips within the required time.
Updating the RCD protection is important as many homes have old electrical technology installed that may not trip in time. This is due to all the modern electronic equipment that we now have in our homes that was not present years ago.
As Qualified Electricians, we are able to test this device for you and advise if a replacement is necessary. This is one of the many checks carried out during an Electrical Safety Check or Periodic Electrical inspection.
