Back to topThere are different types of cooker that can be installed in your home. Each may have slightly different wiring requirements that need to be considered.
Many single ovens do not require any special considerations from the electrical system. Most manufacturers now specify connection to a plug socket or fused connection unit. These cookers are normally the most straightforward to install. We will need to check the specification of your new electric oven to ensure the power supply is adequate.
The double oven normally requires a dedicated electrical circuit to be installed. Where there was a double oven previously, there should be an adequate electrical supply in place for this purpose but where you are swapping from a single to a double oven, you may require a new cable from the fuse box / consumer unit to supply your new appliance.
Where an all electric standalone cooker needs to be installed, these will require a more powerful supply than that of a single oven. Where you have an old standalone cooker in place, the electrical supply will normally be adequate for the replacement cooker. Oven circuits are normally installed to allow for future powerful cooking appliances to be connected so like for like swaps of electric cookers are usually ok.
Range cookers typically require a very large electrical supply cable and their own electrical circuit. The circuit breaker needs to be selected correctly along with the cable and installation needs to be carried out by a professional electrician. Fortunately, we have you covered as we can install all of this for you.
Modern electrical hobs sometimes come from the manufacturer with a 13-amp plug attached. This is often fine for infrequent use but many of our customers contact us to install a larger electrical supply for the hob. Most electrical hobs require 7kw of power or around 32 amps in order to be able to use them to their full capacity. Problems like this are often undiscovered until Christmas time when large meals need to be cooked for several people. 13-amp plugs are not enough to supply these appliances in these cases.
Back to topWhere the electrical supply is insufficient, you may need a new electrical circuit installed for your cooker, cooker hood, hob, or electric oven to work. We can give you a no obligation quote to install a new electrical supply for your appliances and discuss your options with you. Our installation services include the cable for your new oven where required and we ensure that all work is completed to the highest standards.
