1) What is involved in fitting new lights?

If your home is a new build and you are looking to have a replacement light fitting installed then these are typically the most straightforward installations as the wiring is new and the electrical system is up to the current standard of BS7671 wiring regulations. 

We will of course still perform the necessary safety checks to ensure that the earth is in place and unbroken along its length back to the mains supply. We will check the electric shock protection is in place and working correctly also. 

In many instances we will also issue a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate for your peace of mind to show that the work we have carried out is compliant and safe. 

2) Older Property

Where light fittings are installed into older properties, problems can certainly be present that may not be seen until the old light fitting is removed. Many modern light fittings for example, require that only three wires are connected. In older homes it is common to find 9 wires or even more at the ceiling lights location due to the way that our homes used to be wired. The new ceiling lights may not accept this type of electrical wiring safely and as a result, further work may be required such as making a junction in the ceiling to house the other wiring. 

3) Outdoor Lighting

Where you have an outdoor space that you require lighting, we can install replacement light fittings for you without fuss. If you have no existing lights outside and want a new fixture installing rather than replacements then we are happy to give you a quote for this work. 

In many cases, we will have to visit to give you an accurate quote. We will always offer an estimate / quote over WhatsApp if you are able to send us the required information. Where the electrical system, consumer unit and wiring are out of date it may not be possible to install outdoor lighting for you until the wiring system has been brought up to modern safety standards. We stick stringently to the safety wiring regulations and will not put our customers at risk by cutting corners. 

4) Kitchen Under Cabinet Lighting

Installing new under counter lights in the kitchen is a very satisfying electrical job. Where there has been no lighting before, under cabinet lighting can make a huge difference to the look of a kitchen and is a great way to improve usability in the kitchen space. 

Perhaps your old lights have had electrical problems and failed with time or maybe there were no lights ever installed. Whatever your kitchen situation, we are able to install some lighting to brighten the place up and make the space more welcoming and functional.

5) Ceiling light fixture installation

Where older wiring systems are installed in a property, there is occasionally a little more work and cost involved in installing ceiling light fittings. Many new fittings require only 3 single wires and in older wiring systems we often have to create safe wiring junctions above the fitting in order to safely install your new fixture.

9) Dimmer Switch Problems 

If you are experiencing dimmer switch problems then this is not really an electrical emergency so try not to panic. Where LED light bulbs have been installed into an old fixture with an existing dimmer switch it is possible that issues may occur. 

A dimmer switch can also fail at any point which may result in lights flickering, intermittent operation of another lighting fault occurring. 

10) Chandelier Lights

If you have chandelier lights that require installing, we would recommend a specialist company for this. There may be structural considerations that need assessing in order to take the weight of such fittings. The right electrician for chandeliers will ensure that the structural member is sufficient for the weight of the fitting. 

11) Pendant Lights

We are able to offer a free quote for all electrical works including the installation or replacement of pendant lights. Most pendant style light fittings are a reasonably straightforward swap and do not require the creation of electrical junctions in the ceiling. 

12) Old Security Lights

Many old security lights were the halogen style lights from years ago. These lights typically used 300-500 watts of electrical power and would cost a small fortune to run. We can install modern LED security lights with motion sensor, without motion sensor, with key fob activation, night sensor only or timed operation. 

If you have old security lights then we are able to offer a free quote for the replacement of these lights for you. This can often be done via messaging if you are just as busy as we are and don’t have time to wait in for us to come and quote. 

Security lights are an absolute must if you have outdoor dark areas where intruders could lurk, if you want some light and security whilst putting the bins out or if you want to be able to know when someone walks up your path!

13) Dining Room

Finding the right dining room light is often more of a struggle than finding the right living room light. With a dining room light, you want a fitting that sits lower from the ceiling over the centrepiece of the room (the dining table). 

You also want the fitting to be installed and designed such that no-one bangs their hands and ruins the dinner party.  😊

14) LED Lighting

Light Emitting Diode lighting is currently the most efficient form of lighting our homes. There are now many different lamps and bulbs that offer warm glow type light over the harsh bright white light that LED were known for. 

White light is best for kitchens and bathrooms where a good strong clean light is often necessary. This type of light has a high colour temperature of around 5000k and upwards. The warmer more yellow white has a colour temperature of around 3000k. 

Make sure that you pick the right bulbs up for your lamp or light fitting and check the colour temperature on the box before you buy. 

15) Luxury Fixtures

If you have spent lots of money on Fancy Schmancy light fittings then we will be able to install these for you as well. We may ask for the model number or a picture of the box so we can check out the installation requirements beforehand. 

This allows us to work out the labour involved and any material costs that may be required in order to safely, and correctly install the new fittings for you.

Installing a replacement ceiling light in a new build typically costs £80. Installing 4 replacement lights would typically cost £240.
