The loft is often the forgotten place in our homes where Christmas decorations go to gather dust for a year. Many of us choose to use the loft as a storage space for possessions that don't get used very often or have nowhere else to go. There are many possibilities for enabling the loft to be used as storage space such as loft boarding, loft conversion and loft ladders. None of these things will help if you cannot see where you are going when you get up into the loft!

2) Can I have a bright LED light installed in my loft?

Every loft space can and should have some form of lighting. LED lighting has the greatest energy efficiency these days and offers an effective way to light up a large dark space with minimal outlay, low electricity costs and long life span. 3) What are LED tube lights?

LED tube lights are long thin tubes that light up large areas effectively. They come in a range of wattages and sizes but we always recommend the largest light possible that will fit in your space. The difference in cost between a 4ft long LED light and a 6ft long LED light are minimal and as such, if we are able to fit the larger light then it is recommended. The loft area is generally a space without any natural light, has dark corners and no painted surfaces for light to reflect back off.

4) When should I have a light installed?

​Light fittings in the loft area are best installed before any loft boarding is carried out. This can make installation easier and cheaper as there are usually accessible electrical cables in the loft area that we can power the new light from. Once these cables are boarded over, access becomes a challenge, the job will take longer and costs will increase as a result. Additional lighting in the loft should be planned before any major works are carried out such as replacement insulation, boarding or boiler installations. Once the new loft lights are installed, any tasks that need to be completed in the loft are likely to be far easier and take less time as a result.

​We can remove old security lights and make safe the cables. We can also install replacement outdoor security lights for you at the same time as carrying out any loft lighting project that you may have.

7) What do you need in order to carry out installation?

​We need good clear access to the loft hatch and the loft itself needs to be as clear as possible. Whilst we accept there are often limited storage solutions in our homes, it is often very difficult or impossible to carry out electrical work in cluttered loft spaces due to access issues. It is also potentially dangerous to work in cluttered areas so bear this in mind when asking for quotes or work to be carried out in your loft.

8) I have loft floor boarding, can I still have a light?

​We are able to overcome most issues in lofts so do not worry if you already have some boarding in your loft. In order to give you an accurate quotation for your lighting installation we may ask for some photographs of the loft area or a short video walkthrough. Whilst we are happy to quote as many jobs as possible, there could be a long wait at times for a face to face quote visit. Quotes carried out over the internet are often quicker for you and us and enable us to ensure there is safe access to the loft room for installation.
